The process of tube expansion

We are proud to offer a wide variety of tube manipulation services for all of our customers. Depending on what they require, we can provide them with everything from ring rolling to tube swaging, altering the structure of the tube to ensure it is perfectly suited for any purpose. The need for custom-made tubes is strong across all kinds of industries, which is why we pride ourselves on our extensive services, including tube expansion.

This is, essentially, the expansion of one end of a tube. A tube can be opened very slightly or it can have the end opened up as wide as possible. Mostly, the expansion sees only one end of the tube opened, with the rest of the tube kept the same structurally. One of the main roles of tube expansion is to open up the end so that a smaller tube can be placed inside with a tight, close fit. This allows the tubes to exchange liquids and other materials without the material leaking. It also saves costs on welding smaller tubes together, which may otherwise cause slight deformities in the structures of both tubes.

There are two types of expansion techniques that can be used: ram forming and hydraulic operated die. Ram forming uses a tapered die which acts as a mould for the tube, forced into the tube and then pulled out once it has expanded to the desired width. Hydraulic operated die uses a specialist die which has segments that can be expanded at will, providing many more options in concerns to size. Either method can be used to successfully expand the end of a tube and ensure that you get the exact tube that is required for your product.

We have the equipment and the engineers necessary to perform all of your expansion requirements. We work with tubes of multiple materials, including titanium, copper and aluminium tubes. We provide tube swaging, expansion, reduction and many more services to a large range of industries across the UK, including the automotive and construction industries.
