Stainless steel – The relationship with drinking water

Tube reductionThe tubing industry is one we have been a part of for many years. Due to our level of experience, we always work to meet and exceed the demands of clients. This is the case for all our services, including tube reduction. It is a technique that comes with many advantages so it is well worth your money.

People often use stainless steels in the distribution, storage, and treatment of drinking water. This has been the case for more than three decades. These days, the usage is increasing. All over the world, there are opportunities to use it. The use also provides benefits to industry and society, including a reduction in the environmental impact at lower costs. The metal can ensure superior water quality too.

No need for special protection

The corrosion resistance of the steel when you apply it underlies the advantages. No general corrosion exists. As a result, there is no need for protective coatings or corrosion allowances. You don’t need to control any water chemistry either. The exception is standard biocide treatments. As such, there is basically no water contamination in contact with stainless steel.

Long lasting

Your equipment is going to last quite some time too. The corrosion resistance means the steel will last for ages in drinking water applications. As a result there will be no need to replace it for a long time. In addition, you won’t need to do much maintenance. This will help to keep the operating costs down.

Recycling

The benefits continue on from here too. When the installation is no longer required, the metal still has residual value. In other words, there is a greater reason to recycle the steel. Even bespoke parts that have had extra processing like tube reduction can be recycled.

No weakened flow attributes

Due to there being no general corrosion, there is no need to use any anti-corrosion products on interior surfaces. These could lower the tube’s smoothness and bore. What this means is that the system’s initial flow attributes won’t weaken. Therefore, you won’t need any extra pumping capacity or flow during the application’s lifetime.

Lightweight

Several elements all merge to allow you to use lightweight structures. These include the decent corrosion resistance and resistance to high water flow levels. Others are weldability, ductility, and strength.

To give an example, only thin wall tubes might be necessary. You can join these via welding. Another option would be flaring and using loose flanges. In turn, this results in better transport to the site. Moreover, there is more capability for offsite shop fabrication. It is the same for easier installations.

We use multiple tube reduction approaches

At Multiform Tubes, we can perform reduction using hydraulic end formers and rotary reducing machines. Each method has its own advantages and the one we use will depend on the job specs. In addition to stainless steel, we can work with materials like titanium, aluminium, and brass.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need our help. We can give you more information about tube reduction and all the other services we offer. As a result you can select the right process for your tubing.
